Kindergarten Newsletter January 5th-8th



Hello and welcome back to the grind!  We’re happy to be back and ready to start out a new year with excitement!  Here’s what’s coming up for next week…    

·        Thank you so very much for all the wonderful, amazing and generous Christmas gifts that you graced us all with!  They were greatly appreciated!  You are toooooo kind!



·        Sharing- Next week’s sharing is letter is “Nn”. Please have your child write three clues about their share and be prepared to read them out loud to the class.

·        Mitten/Rhyming Word Homework- Please be sure to read the attached directions regarding this special homework assignment. Be creative, colorful, and include your name on the back. Mittens are due by Friday, January 8.
 
·        SNACKS—Please send WATER ONLY and please understand that we rarely have extra snacks to hand out for those who do not bring a snack.  Please remember to send your child to school with a snack EVERY DAY.

·        Writing—Our writing job has changed again for the month of January.  Our focus is now writing about the way people look.  Please have your child write at least two sentences about the way someone in your family looks.  For example, “My mom lives with me in my house.  She has brown, curly hair, brown eyes, and big red lips.”  (in Kindergarten writing of course)

·        Our theme for next week is The New Year and Mittens, and the new word wall word is “look.”  We know the following High Frequency Words: I, a, like, the, see, is, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, you, am, feel, we & look.  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing every day!!!!

·        Label- Please make sure all of your child’s things are clearly labeled with his/her name- coats, lunch pails, water bottles, etc.

Kindergarten Newsletter for December 14th-18th



Here’s what’s coming up for next week…    

   ·  FIELDTRIP- Tuesday, December 15 is our fieldtrip to Paradise Valley Estates Retirement Home. ALL AM and PM Kindergarteners will attend school from 8:15-11:35a.m on that day.
Students need a booster seat clearly labeled with their name and a festive holiday hat.
ALL students must go to their class in the morning for attendance or they will be marked absent. Parents who are driving only their own child must sign their child out from school to release the school/district from liability. Teachers will have a signout sheet in their room.
If you have not done so yet, please let your child’s teacher know if you will be driving/chaperoning a group of children OR driving only your own child to this event.

·  We have sent home information regarding Kids’ Korner, the gift shop set up Room 604 for students to purchase little gifts for their family members.  The parent volunteers will be able to help your child while there, but they must be accompanied by an adult, in order to visit. Teachers will NOT be accompanying your child. The gift shop is open daily till December 16th.


·        Sharing- Next week’s letter is “W”. Please remember to have your child write 3 clues about their share and be ready to read it aloud to the class.

·        Disney Day- Wear your Disney Gear (shirt, hoodie, hat, Mickey Mouse ears) on Wednesday, December 16th.

·        Our last Friday before break, December 18th is Pajama Day!  Please come to school in your cozy jammies or comfiest clothes! Students must wear shoes, no slippers.

·        Christmas Hat Day- Wear a Christmas hat or shirt on Friday, December 18th in addition to your jammies. Oh what fun!!!

·        Six Flags Read to Succeed reading logs— Completed reading logs are due to school by February 12th

·        Volunteers- Ms. Davila needs parent volunteers on Fridays. Please let her know if you can help from 8:30-10:00 a.m. Thanks!

·        With this cold and rainy weather, please make sure that your child’s coat is LABELED!!!!  

·        Our theme for next week is Christmas/Holidays Around the World, and we are reviewing word wall words.   We know the following High Frequency Words: I, a, like, the, see, is, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, you, feel & we.  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing every day!

·        Holidays Around the World—We have been talking about our family’s special Holiday traditions this month.  If you would like to come in to share your family’s special traditions, please let us know.

·        Holiday Fair—Thank you to all who came out last weekend and participated in the raffles and silent auction!  The school was able to raise a LOT of money!  Thank you!

Kindergarten Newsletter December 7-11, 2015

Kindergarten Newsletter


Here’s what’s coming up for this week…    


·        Our theme for this week is Christmas & the Grinch, and our new word wall word is “we”.   We know the following High Frequency Words: I, a, like, the, see, is, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, you, feel & we.  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing every day!

Grinch Day!!!  We will be celebrating all things Grinch on Tuesday, December 8th!  Feel free to dress like the Grinch, put your hair up Cindy Lou Who style, or just wear green!  We will be doing fun Grinch projects and centers that day!

·        We have sent home information regarding Kids’ Korner, the gift shop set up at school for students to purchase little gifts for their family members.  The parent volunteers will be able to help your child while there in the gift shop, but they must be accompanied by an adult, in order to visit.


·        Sharing- Next week’s share letter is “C”. Please make sure your child brings his/her share on his or her assigned day with 3 written clues. Students should be stretching out their sounds and writing their own clues, so they can read it in front of the class.     


·        Mundy Holiday Fair— Please come out and participate in the raffles and silent auction this Saturday, December 5th from 10:00-2:00p.m. Kindergarteners who come can sing on stage at 11:00a.m.  If you have a Santa hat, please have your child wear it.  Santa will be there!

·        Toys for Tots—We are in need of MORE TOYS!!!  If you are able, please consider donating a new, unopened toy to a child in need. The last day to donate a toy is Friday, December 11th

·        Fieldtrip- Kindergarteners will be visiting senior citizens at Paradise Valley Estates on Tuesday, December 15th. Please make sure you turned in your child’s permission slip and let your child’s teacher know if you will be driving a group/chaperoning or driving only your own child. Students need to bring a booster seat and a holiday hat (Santa hat, antlers) labeled with their name.

ALL AM and PM KINDERGARTENERS will attend school from 8:15-11:35a.m on that day. Students MUST go to their class first for attendance and fieldtrip info or they will be marked absent.

·        Our last Friday before break, Dec. 18th is Pajama Day!  Please come to school in your cozy jammies or comfiest clothes (no slippers).

·        Six Flags Read to Succeed reading logs—Your child can earn a free admission ticket to Six Flags for logging six hours of reading.  You should have received a reading log.  Completed reading logs are due to your child’s teacher by February 12th

Kindergarten Newsletter November 30 - December 4th

Welcome back!  We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving break. The next month will go fast!  Three weeks until our next break...wow!

Here’s what’s coming up……    

·        Sharing- bring in something that starts with the letter f (like in fish or feather). Please have your child stretch out the sounds of all their words in their 3 written clues. Please do NOT tell them how to spell the words.  They will benefit much more from stretching out and writing the sounds they hear.  It will also help them to be able to read their writing.  Thank you for your support!

·        Fieldtrip- Please turn in your green fieldtrip permission slip if you haven’t done so already. We will be singing holiday songs for the residents of Paradise Valley Estates Retirement Home on Tuesday, December 15. Students are encouraged to wear a Santa hat and festive clothing on that day.
We need parent drivers on that day. Please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible if you will be chaperoning and driving a group of children, or if you will be driving only your own child.

·        Holiday Fair—Be sure to stop by  our Holiday Fair on Saturday, December 5th from 10:00a.m-2:00p.m.  There will be fun crafts for the kids, cool stuff to buy and food trucks for lunch!  Our Holiday Kindergarten tree will be raffled off, along with all the other grade levels. All Kindergarteners are invited to come and sing on the stage for everyone at 11:00a.m.  Santa will be there. Hope to see you all there!

·        Toys for Tots--Student council has begun collecting new and unopened toys!!  Please consider donating between November 30-December 11! 

·        Our theme for this week is Reindeer, and our new word wall word is “feel”.   We know the following High Frequency Words: I, a, like, the, see, is, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, you & feel.  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing every day!

·        Our Writing Jobs have changed again!  We are now writing about how things feel when you touch them, soft, cold, squishy, bumpy, etc.  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing practice each day.

·        We will begin talking about the different Holiday traditions in December.  If your family celebrates a special December/January holiday, we would like to invite you to come in and share it with our class.  Please talk to your teacher if you’d be willing to come in for a bit and share your family’s holiday traditions!

·        Please make sure your child is writing his/her name on Homework Packets!  Many are coming in each week without names!!!! 

·        Upcoming Dates to remember—

o      Winter break begins on Sat., Dec. 21st and goes through the 4th of Jan.  School resumes again on Tuesday, Jan. 5th.


Our attendance in Kindergarten last month was 97.90%.  Our school wide goal is to increase our attendance rate to 98%.  The importance of your child’s attendance cannot be emphasized enough.  Thank you again for all that you do at home to support your child’s learning.  We appreciate all that you do!  Please feel free to email with any concerns or questions!  Thank you!!

Kindergarten Newsletter November 16-20



Because of our WACKY days NEXT week, we will not be doing regular centers and will not need parent volunteers.  We would like help however, with FOLDERS in the morning, if you’re willing to stick around for a moment!  

Here’s what’s coming up for next week… 
 
·        Every day next week is a minimum day for the WHOLE school in order to accommodate parent conferences.  *ALL Kinder kids come to school together from 8:15-11:35am all week long. Dismissal every day will be just like Wednesdays. It will be crazy….please stay in your car if you are in the yellow loading zone. If you need to get out of your car, you need to park in the parking lot or on a neighboring street and walk.

·        We look forward to meeting you all next week for your student/teacher conference.  Your child IS encouraged to attend their student-led conference.  This is a great way to involve your child in his/her own education. 

·        PLEASE make sure that you are signed up for a parent conference time through sign-up genius.  This is our ONLY sign up, so please make sure you are on it! Please be on time, conferences are only 15 minutes.

·        Toys for Tots will start on November 30-December 11 (right after we return from Thanksgiving Break).  Student Council will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for kids of all ages.  These toys will be donated to families in need in the Fairfield community.    

·        “A can a kid that’s all we ask.” Please donate canned or boxed food towards our food drive from November 4-18. It will be used to help families and kids in our community (David Weir Elementary).

·        Please help your child be successful in school by attending regularly and on time. Attendance in Kindergarten is 97.77% Let’s make it 100%.

·        Holiday Tree Donations—Thank you for all of your classroom donations!  We hope to raise lots of money for our kiddos at the Holiday Fair on Saturday, December 5th from 10am-2pm.  Kindergarteners are welcome to come and sing at 11:00a.m. Santa will be there!

·        Fieldtrip- Kindergarteners will be singing holiday songs to the elderly residents of Paradise Valley Estates Retirement Home on Tuesday, December 15. A green permission slip was sent home in folders at the beginning of the week. Please complete, sign, and return the permission slip by November 20th.

·        Our theme next week is Thanksgiving, and our new word wall word is “am.”   We know the following High Frequency Words: I, a, like, the, see, is, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, you & am.  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing every day!

·        SHARING next week…bring in something that starts with the letter E (like in elephant or egg, not eel).  Please have your child stretch out their sounds of all the words in their 3 written clues.  Please do NOT tell them how to spell the words, as they cannot read them.  THANK YOU!

Kindergarten Newsletter November 9th-13th

Happy SHORT week everyone…No School Wednesday for Veteran’s Day! 

Here’s what’s coming up for this week… 

·        We are in our second week of dance lessons from the Royal King Dance Company. Please continue to bring your child to the MPR at 8:10 a.m. (AM Kinder) and 11:30 a.m (PM Kinder) all of this week. Students will be performing for parents/families. The date and time hasn’t been determined yet. We will let you know as soon as we do. Please help your child be successful by practicing the dance moves at home each day.

·  The Cordelia Public Library would love to have our students  take advantage of some of their wonderful programs, such as Paws for Reading, Book Club,etc.  Every Tuesday at 3:30p.m they offer free children’s activities and crafts. On November 10 at 4:00p.m the Vacaville Children’s Ballet will be performing the Nutcracker at the library.  A calendar of library events has been sent home in your child’s folder. 
 
·        November 16th – 20th  are minimum days for the WHOLE school in order to accommodate parent/teacher conferences.  *ALL Kinder kids come to school together from 8:15-11:35am all week long. Dismissal every day will be just like Wednesdays.  Please be sure to stay in your car and wait in line with everyone…  It’s going to be a long wait.  If you can, please park and walk in.

·        Your child IS encouraged to attend their student-led conference.  This is a great way to involve your child in his/her own education. 

·        PLEASE make sure that you are signed up for a parent conference time through Sign-up Genius.  This is our ONLY sign up, so please make sure you are on it!

·        Students will not be checking out library books next Wednesday, Novermber 11 due to the holiday/no school.

Kinder News Nov. 2 - 6th

November 2nd - 6th           
 Pajama Day is Monday, Nov. 2nd for all students!  Come to school in your cozy jammies!


Here’s what’s coming up for this week… 
 
·        We’d like to send you ALL a very BIG THANK YOU for helping us to make our Halloween parties so much fun!  Your generosity and helpfulness is very much appreciated!!!!!

·        The Holiday Tree donations are DUE by Nov. 16th. The goal is to have as many items in which to make our tree highly desirable!  If you are able, please bring in your donations as soon as possible!  THANK YOU!   

·        A sign up genius will be emailed soon so that you can sign up for student/ teacher/ parent conferences!!  Can’t believe it’s that time already!

·        TURKEYS in DISGUISE!!!!!  Please help your child to transform their turkeys in disguise, CUT THEM OUT and turn them in as soon as you finish them.  These are going up on our walls, and we would love for them all to be special and creative and fun.  Please help your child to add special details, such as fabric, scrapbook paper, glitter, or any other details to really disguise those turkeys.  PLEASE NO FOOD!

·        Please cut your turkeys OUT!  Thank you!


·        Upcoming Dates to be aware of----

o      Nov. 6th –Teacher workday--no school for students
o      Nov. 11th – Veteran’s Day – No school!


o      Nov. 16 – 20th  are minimum days for the WHOLE school.  *ALL Kinder kids come to school together from 8:15-11:35am all week long. Dismissal every day will be just like Wednesdays.  Please be on time to pick up your Kindergartener.  Be prepared for a crazy week! 

o      Nov. 23rd – 27th is our Thanksgiving Break!  Enjoy a restful week!

·         Our theme this week is Leaves & Scarecrows, and our new word wall word is “has”.   We know the following High Frequency Words: I, a, like, the, see, is, can, my, and, have, go, to, & has.  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing every day!

  • Writing—we have covered the following topics/words in our monthly writing—color words & size and shape words.  Our NEW writing job this month is to include FAMILY words, such as mom, dad, brother, sister, cousin, etc.  Please try to practice writing sentences using these words every day.  The kids will have less days this month in which to practice for show-off writing, so the more you can help at home, the better they will do!

·        Guided Reading Little BooksOur goal is to start sending these home again this week.  They will NOT come home, however, during the week of minimum days.  Thank you for returning these each day.

·        Please do NOT send your child’s little reading book back without the Ziploc bag.  This is our way of monitoring who has returned their books.

Kindergarten Newsletter October 26th - 30th


Happy Halloween!!!  Here’s what’s coming up for this week… 

Keep up your School Spirit!!!
We are celebrating Red Ribbon Week, all next week…
October 26-30
Ø  Monday: Boot Day [Give a boot to drugs]
Ø  Tuesday: Shades Day[My future is bright!]
Ø  Wednesday: Wear Red [Red Ribbon Week]
Ø  Thursday: Crazy Sock Day[Sock it to drugs]
Ø     Friday: Halloween Costumes [Say Boo to drugs]

·        Thursday is picture Retake day.  If you were unhappy with your child’s first fall photo, you can do a retake on Thursday.  J  The Picture ID# is CR705139Q1, if you would like to order online.
               
·        Upcoming Dates to be aware of----

o      BLOTTO is tonight in the MPR.

o      Monday October 26th is our Field Trip to the pumpkin patchPlease remember, all students must be here at 8:15 with a labeled booster seat (unless you are driving your own child).  All students need to be picked up at 11:35.

o      Nov. 6th there is NO school for students.
o      Nov. 11th is Veteran’s Day and no school for ALL.
o      Nov. 16th– 20th  are minimum days for the WHOLE school.  ALL Kinder kids come to school from 8:15-11:35am.    Traffic will be hectic!  Please stay in your cars and KEEP MOVING.  Do not park on the yellow curb out front or get out of your car.
o      Nov. 23rd– 27th is our Thanksgiving Break!

·        Happy Halloween!  All are welcome to our parties this Friday.  Our school-wide Halloween parade will be at 1:30pm on Friday afternoon, which means the morning kids will have already gone home.  Sooooo…the morning kids will be “parading” through all classrooms first thing on Halloween morning.  You’re welcome to join us for this, and if you would like to bring your AM student back for the afternoon parade, you are welcome to do that too!  J  

·         Our theme next week is HALLOWEEN, and our new Word Wall Word is have.    We know the following High Frequency Words: I, a, like, the, see, is, can, my, go, to and have.  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing every day!

·        Sharing next week is something that starts with N.  Please have your child write 3 simple clues.  If they
s-t-r-e-t-c-h out their sounds and only write what they hear, they can usually read it.  If you feel it needs to be deciphered, please write below their words.  Thank you!

·        Book Boxes – We make little paper books during center time almost weekly.  They are intended to be kept at home and re-read by your child.  Please have FUN with this and let your child create a little shoe box, or fancy bag to keep their “books” in. 

·        Reading Eggs – Every child in Kindergarten has a Reading Eggs account that is paid for by our MCA.  Sadly only half of our students are using it at all.  It is a wonderful resource and prizes have been awarded to students who are participating.  Please encourage your child to use their Reading Eggs account.  Their user names and passwords are taped inside of their folders.

·        Classroom volunteers—Thank you for helping us to keep the noise level down during center time.

·        Guided Reading BooksJust a friendly reminder that we don’t always send these home, depending on what we are doing in the classroom each week.  Right now, we are assessing students individually for our upcoming report cards, so we are NOT doing reading groups.  Please continue to read to and with your child every day.
