Kindergarten newsletter Aug. 12 - 14th

Welcome to Kindergarten!!!

We'd like to welcome all of our families to a new year!  We are so excited to meet all of you!  There are a few things that we need you to know about the first day/week...

1. For the first day, your child will attend school like a NORMAL day.  If you are AM, your day is 8:15 - 11:35 and PM is 11:35 - 2:45.  Our Wacky Wednesday schedule will not begin until Aug. 19th, when all students attend school from 8:15 - 11:35.

2.  Please send your child to school with a small healthy snack every day, as we do not provide snack.  Water only, please no juice.

3.  Please remember to never leave your car unattended at the yellow drop off curb in front of Kindergarten.  This applies to picking up as well.

4.  You are welcome to accompany your child into the classroom for first 15- 20 minutes, helping them to find their cubbies and seats.  We will wave goodbye shortly thereafter.  At that time, please plan to make a quick exit in order to help calm any possible anxieties.

5.  Supply bins will be outside in the kindergarten playground for any donations.  THANK YOU!

6.  Your child needs a folder, labeled with his/her name, that will be used daily.  He/she needs to place it in the Homework Bin on the bench in front of their classroom.  In order for your child to establish this daily routine, please encourage them to do this on their own every day, including the first day.

7.  Please make sure to label all personal items for your child, such as jackets, lunch boxes and water bottles.  Donated supplies, other than folders, do not need a name.

8.  At the end of your child's day, your teacher will be dismissing each student one by one, so that we can become familiar with each child's parent. Please be patient, as this is important and will take a few extra minutes.  Please plan to park in the lot or neighborhood, as you are never allowed to leave your car unattended at the curb, even to pick up.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with our crazy traffic!

Kindergarten Newsletter
May 18th – 21st

We can’t believe that our year is winding down.  Here’s what’s coming up for the new week…

·        We would all like to send a huge THANK YOU for all of the wonderful cards, flowers, candy, and gifts that you showered us with last week for Teacher Appreciation Week. We truly felt appreciated and loved.

·        Be on the look out for two sign-up geniuses to be emailed soon.  We are planning our Hawaiian Day and the End of the Year Parties.  We will need everyone’s help to make these fun and memorable events!  THANK YOU.

·        This week will be our final library check out for the year.  All library books are now due.

·        Calling all Dads…  PLEASE come to our FATHER’S DAY Celebration in Kindergarten Monday June 1st.  AM Kinder will have their session from 8:30-9:15 and PM Kinder will celebrate with their dads from 11:45-12:30.  We understand that this is very likely inconvenient for most of you.  If you are able to come in, please be prepared to be celebrated by more than just your own child as many of the kids will not have their own dads here to play with. We will be making paper airplanes, building with blocks, playing with Play-Doh, cars, drawing… All the fun things daddies usually like to do with their kids.  Sorry dads, no massages and nail painting at this event.

·        Writing—During our last month of Kindergarten, we want everyone to think about all of the previous writing jobs we’ve had and try to incorporate DIFFERENT things to write about!  Our job in May is to use number words in our writing.  Our goal is to have the kids choose one topic and elaborate on it, really describing it.

·        Important dates to remember—There are many upcoming dates to remember.  May is JAM- PACKED, full of activities and dates to remember…

Kinder newsletter April 13 - 17

Kindergarten Newsletter
April 13th – 17th

THANK YOU to all who accompanied us to the farm last week!  We had SUCH a great time there!  We are a lucky bunch!

Here’s what’s coming up for our new week…

·        Library book plea—we would like to ask you to have your child return his/her library books BEFORE Wednesday.  Having to return 30+ library books before we can check out new ones each week is taking up too much time!  PLEASE help us to get them in before WED.  THANK YOU!!

·        At this point in the school year, we are expecting our students to stretch out and sound out words by themselves, while reading AND writing.  If they know their letter names and sounds, they can do it.  Our kids need to build confidence, and the best way for them to gain this is to do it by themselves.  Rather than doing it for them, instead, reassure them and encourage them that they can indeed do it!!!  Thank you for helping to encourage this very important skill!

·        IMPORTANT DATE TO REMEMBER--- Kindergarten will be having our annual Mother’s Spa & Pampering Day on May 8th.  We would love it if EVERY mother could attend to receive some much needed pampering by their 5 year old!!!  This is a wonderful memory-making day for all who attend.  Please plan to be here if you can!  Grandmas are welcome if mom is unavailable!

·        We also plan to celebrate Dads on June 1st with our annual Donuts for Dads for the first hour of Kindergarten!  Please be aware of this date, in case you may need to take the morning off from work!

·        Lost & Found—please take a moment to check out the lost & found in the MPR.  It will soon be donated to our local charities.

·        DONATIONS!!!  If you are willing to donate one of the following things, please let your child’s teacher know.  In honor of Earth Day, we will soon be making pancakes, and will need:

o       Krusteaz pancake mix
o       Cool Whip
o       Coffee filters

·        Important end of the school year dates to remember:

April 23-May 21 - SBAC testing (3rd-6th grade)
April 27 - 3rd trimester Progress Reports come home
May 1 – May Fair evening (3-7 PM)
May 8 - Mother’s Day in Kindergarten (the first hour+ of your child’s day)
May 11-15 - Teacher Appreciation Week
May 15 - Volunteer Breakfast 7:30 am
May 18 – 21 - College Week
May 22 and 25 – No school – Memorial Day
May 27 – Kinder HAWAIIAN DAY (8-11:30) with Kinder performance at 8:30AM
May 29 – Mundy Jog-a-thon (morning)
June 1 – Father’s Day in Kindergarten
June 2 – Kinder SLIDESHOW presentation for PARENTS (the first 15 min. of your child’s day).  ALL are welcome to stay and watch!
Also--6th grade promotion 6 PM.
June 4 – Last Day of school minimum day & 5th grade promotion at 11AM

·        Our theme for this week is Butterflies!  Our new word wall word is “were.”  We now know the following words:  I, like, see, a, is, the, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, am, look, are, saw, went, with, up, they, do, but, said, will, come & were.

·        Writing—For the month of April, we will be writing about how things feel when you touch them.  Please have your child write at least THREE sentences about how something feels when they touch it.  Our goal is to have the kids choose one topic and elaborate on it, and really describe the experience.  “I love to pet my dog.  He is warm and soft.  His fur is silky and smooth.  When I touch his whiskers they feel stiff.  He doesn’t like it when I touch his whiskers.”  (in Kindergarten writing of course)  We are encouraging LOTS of writing that all goes together!

·        Reading Eggs!!!  Our goal in the classroom is to have your child become proficient in LOGGING him/herself onto Reading Eggs INDEPENDENTLY.  This is a huge skill for a Kindergartener, but we know they can do it.  While at home, please help guide your child in logging on, rather than doing this for them.  The more they do it, the better they will become.

·        WEEKLY HOMEWORKPackets always come home on Mondays unless we tell you otherwise.   Please have your child complete 1-2 pages each night, and complete the writing assignment.

Thank you again for all that you do at home to support your child’s learning.  We appreciate all that you do!  Please feel free to email with any concerns or questions!  Thank you!!
