Kindergarten newsletter April 16-20

Kindergarten Newsletter
April 16th - 20th
Here’s what’s coming up for the new week…
  • The Mundy Fun Run has been launched, and we are all excited for it!  The run will be on Friday April 20th.  ALL students at Mundy will participate in running laps!  The goal of the Fun Run is to raise funds for our school to buy much needed tech supplies, like SmartTV’s for all classrooms.  We are encouraging all kids to try to get sponsored per lap that they run. We anticipate most kids running between 30-35 laps in the time we are out there!  (We will let you know the time we will be going outside when we know it!) The more sponsored laps we get, the more money we raise for our school!

  • PLEASE log on to funrun.com for all the details, and be sure your child is registered with their website, even if they don’t get donations. The kids are super excited at the possibility of earning prizes just for signing up.  THANK YOU for your help!

  • Next week is school spirit week!  We love it when everyone tries to participate and have fun!
  • Monday April 16th - Crazy Hair Day on College Day
  • Tuesday April 17th - Disney Day
  • Wednesday April 18th - Rainbow Day (wear any color of the rainbow, or ALL!  Wednesday is also Spring Picture Day, so keep that in mind when planning your colorful outfit.)
  • Thursday April 19th - Nerd Day (Also, our Kindergarten field trip to the Jelly Belly factory, so keep that in mind when planning how you wish to walk around the Jelly Belly Factory!  The teachers will be participating and dressing up! HA!)
  • Friday April 20th - Fun Run/Mundy Spirit Day

  • Our theme for next week is Earth Day & Recycling!  Our new word wall word is “would.”  We now know the following words:  I, like, see, a, is, the, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, am, look, are, saw, went, with, up, they, do, but, said, will, saw, was, were and would.  Please review these at home. Students are expected to be able to read and write these words correctly. It’s not easy and takes lots of practice.
·       Spring Picture day is THIS Wednesday April 18th!  You do NOT have to preorder anything.  Just send your child to school ready to take a picture, and when the photos come back, you will have the opportunity to purchase what you like!  This is also RAINBOW SPIRIT DAY at Mundy. It’s up to you how much or how little you would like to participate! :)

  • Our upcoming field trip is THIS Thursday, April 19th.  We are ALL going to the Jelly Belly Factory together!
****ALL Kindergarteners will come to school from 8:15 AM - 11:35AM.  Permission slips should be in now. Always complete BOTH SIDES for every field trip form!   If you volunteer to drive additional kids, please plan to drive that day! We will not be contacting you to confirm.  THANK YOU!!!!!
·        Writing—By the end of Kindergarten, your child should be writing THREE sentences that all go together, and is NOT a list.  We are working on this just about every day in Kindergarten to help your child be most prepared for the first grade. We encourage you to practice with your child at home as well!  The more they practice, the easier it will be!

  • For the month of April, we will be writing about how things feel when you touch them.  Please have your child practice writing THREE sentences about how something feels when they touch it.  Our goal is to have the kids choose one topic and elaborate on it, and really describe the experience.  “I love to pet my dog. He is warm and soft. His fur is silky and smooth.  When I touch his whiskers they feel stiff. He doesn’t like it when I touch his whiskers.”  (in Kindergarten writing of course) We are encouraging LOTS of writing that all goes together!

Reminder:  NO SCHOOL Friday April 27TH.  Enjoy!
  • Typing FUN!  Typing is an important skill your child will benefit from and need before you know it.  Try using Dance Mat Typing..  It’s a very child friendly, FREE, colorful, FUN typing tutor program available online that we have used.    Here is the link to cut & paste…  http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/levels/level1.shtml
Thank you again for all that you do at home to support your child’s learning.  We appreciate all that you do! Please feel free to email with any concerns or questions!  Thank you!!
