Kindergarten Newsletter April 23rd-26th

Here’s what’s coming up for the next week…
·        Administrator Assistant’s Week, if you would like to thank Miss Danni,
Miss Evelina and Miss Diane in the office for all the multitudes of band-aids,
ice packs and love they give to your kids on a daily basis (not to mention all
of the grown up office duties in between)!!!

Reminder:  NO SCHOOL Friday April 27TH.  Enjoy!

·        Our theme for this week is Mother’s Day!  Our new word wall word is
“of”  We now know the following words:  I, like, see, a, is, the, can, my, and,
have, go, to, has, am, look, are, saw, went, with, up, they, do, but, said, will,
saw, were, would, was and of.  Please review these at home. The end goal is
for every student to be able to read and write these words correctly. It’s
NOT easy and takes LOTS of practice EVERYDAY!  Thank you for your
support! It really makes a huge difference in your child’s performance.

Parent Volunteers:  If you normally volunteer during center time (9:00-10:00
for AM K and 12:00-1:00 for PM K) we will really be counting on you the
next two weeks.  We will be doing assessments on the new incoming
kindergarteners, so we will be alone during center time. If we do not have
volunteers, that makes guided reading groups more difficult to pull.  We will
appreciate you even more than normal for coming to help!

  • Our next field trip is Thursday, May 3rd.  We are ALL going to the
  • Loma Vista Farm in Vallejo together!  ALL Kindergarteners will come to
  • school from 8:15 AM - 11:35AM.  Permission slips will be sent home
  • . Please make sure that you fill out BOTH SIDES! If you do volunteer
  • to drive your own child, or are approved and volunteer to drive other
  • children, please be sure to let us know in advance if you change your
  • mind so that we can plan accordingly.  If we can avoid last minute
  • scrambling it makes the field trip day run smoothly. Thank you!

·        Writing—By the end of Kindergarten, the goal is for your child to be
writing THREE sentences that all go together, and NOT a list.  We are
working on this just about every day in Kindergarten to help your child
be most prepared for the first grade. We highly encourage you to
practice with your child at home as well!  The more they practice, the
easier it will be!

For the month of April, we will be writing about how things feel when you
touch them.  Please have your child practice writing THREE sentences
about how something feels when they touch it.  Our goal is to have the kids
choose one topic and elaborate on it, and really describe the experience.
“I love to hug my grandma. She is warm and soft. Her skin is wrinkly.
When I touch her hair it feels silky and light.” (in Kindergarten writing of
course)  We are encouraging LOTS of writing that all goes together!

***ATTENTION MOMS: Friday May 11th is our big Mother's Day event that

Kindergarten newsletter April 16-20

Kindergarten Newsletter
April 16th - 20th
Here’s what’s coming up for the new week…
  • The Mundy Fun Run has been launched, and we are all excited for it!  The run will be on Friday April 20th.  ALL students at Mundy will participate in running laps!  The goal of the Fun Run is to raise funds for our school to buy much needed tech supplies, like SmartTV’s for all classrooms.  We are encouraging all kids to try to get sponsored per lap that they run. We anticipate most kids running between 30-35 laps in the time we are out there!  (We will let you know the time we will be going outside when we know it!) The more sponsored laps we get, the more money we raise for our school!

  • PLEASE log on to funrun.com for all the details, and be sure your child is registered with their website, even if they don’t get donations. The kids are super excited at the possibility of earning prizes just for signing up.  THANK YOU for your help!

  • Next week is school spirit week!  We love it when everyone tries to participate and have fun!
  • Monday April 16th - Crazy Hair Day on College Day
  • Tuesday April 17th - Disney Day
  • Wednesday April 18th - Rainbow Day (wear any color of the rainbow, or ALL!  Wednesday is also Spring Picture Day, so keep that in mind when planning your colorful outfit.)
  • Thursday April 19th - Nerd Day (Also, our Kindergarten field trip to the Jelly Belly factory, so keep that in mind when planning how you wish to walk around the Jelly Belly Factory!  The teachers will be participating and dressing up! HA!)
  • Friday April 20th - Fun Run/Mundy Spirit Day

  • Our theme for next week is Earth Day & Recycling!  Our new word wall word is “would.”  We now know the following words:  I, like, see, a, is, the, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, am, look, are, saw, went, with, up, they, do, but, said, will, saw, was, were and would.  Please review these at home. Students are expected to be able to read and write these words correctly. It’s not easy and takes lots of practice.
·       Spring Picture day is THIS Wednesday April 18th!  You do NOT have to preorder anything.  Just send your child to school ready to take a picture, and when the photos come back, you will have the opportunity to purchase what you like!  This is also RAINBOW SPIRIT DAY at Mundy. It’s up to you how much or how little you would like to participate! :)

  • Our upcoming field trip is THIS Thursday, April 19th.  We are ALL going to the Jelly Belly Factory together!
