Kindergarten Newsletter
February 13th - 16th
Thank you to all who dressed up to celebrate the
100th day of school! School is so much more fun when we join in on the fun!!
Here’s what’s coming up for next week…
- PARENT VALENTINE HOMEWORK!!!!!!!! We hope that you have turned these in today! If you haven't, please make sure we have it by Tuesday!
- Reminder about Valentine’s Day & our classroom parties. We hope you have all had an opportunity to sign up to bring in something for our class parties. We could not do what we do without your help! THANK YOU!!! Please plan to bring in your child’s VALENTINE BOX on the day of our party, Feb. 14th. Your child can also bring in 30 valentines for classmates on the 14th, NOT before. Please have your child SIGN his/her Valentines ONLY. They will not be delivered if they are addressed to specific friends. It is much too difficult to manage!!
- Our classroom theme for next week is Chinese New Year. Our new word wall word is “up.” We now know the following words: I, like, see, a, is, the, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, am, look, are, saw, went, are & up.
- Writing—Our writing job is the same all month. We are NOW writing using SOUND words. Please have your child write at least two sentences about the sounds you hear while taking a walk outside. “Today I took a walk with my dad around the block. We went to the creek and heard birds chirping in the trees. We also heard the wind blowing the grass and the weeds. Then we heard a fire engine siren far away. I like listening to the sounds outside.” (in Kindergarten writing of course)
- A note about writing with your child...we are always encouraging and helping the kids to sound out unfamiliar words when writing. Please do NOT spell words for your child. When they say the word slowly and write what they hear, even if it’s just a few letters from the word, it will only benefit them when writing. We don’t want to discourage them from writing it the “wrong way” because this will inhibit them from writing at all. For example, the word /candy/ is heard like this from a Kindergartener.../kande/, and this is perfectly normal and encouraged! THANK YOU!
- REMINDER Please be sure that your child returns their book bag in their folder everyday. We cannot send a new book home with them to practice reading if they did not bring their book bag to reading group. Thank you!!
- Our very own pediatric dentist, Dr. Anita Ford (Sam's mom from Mrs. Barron's class) will be visiting our class on Thursday to talk about dental health with the kids. THANK YOU Dr. Ford!
