Kindergarten Newsletter December 5th– 9th

December will go by fast!  Two weeks until our next break...WOW!

Here’s what’s coming up for this week…

·        Holiday Fair—Be sure to come and check out the Holiday Fair this Saturday, December 3rdth from 10am-2pm.  There will be cool stuff to buy and sweet songs to hear!  Our Kindergarten tree will be raffled off, along with all the other grade levels.  The Book Fair will also be open in our library, be sure to stop by.  Hope to see you all there!

Singing at the Holiday Fair - Every grade level is invited to perform a few short songs.  Participation is completely voluntary.  Kindergarten is scheduled to perform at 10:30am.  If you would like to bring your child to sing tomorrow, please have them wear festive holiday colors.  Please bring them to the stone steps by our library at 10:15.  We will walk the students into the MPR and place them on the stage to sing at 10:30.

·        Toys for Tots--Student council has begun collecting new, unopened toys.  We have received very few toys this year.  Please consider donating!

·        Our theme for this week is The Grinch and Christmas, and our new word wall word is “we”.   We now know the following High Frequency Words: I, a, like, the, see, is, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, you, feel and wePlease encourage your child to use these words in their writing every day!

·        Get ready for GRINCH DAY: Tuesday December 6th will be Grinch Day in Kindergarten.  Our class will be having lots of Grinchy fun with math & literacy activities centered around the Grinch.  Your child is welcome to dress up for this fun day.  Ideas include WEARING GREEN, trying out some Who inspired hairdos, wearing antlers like the Grinch’s dog Max…. Have FUN with it!

·        Our Writing Jobs have changed again!  We are now writing about how we feel.  Happy, mad, excited, sad, silly, thankful, tired, nervous, surprised…  Please encourage your child to use these words in their writing practice each day. At this point of the year our goal is for your child to be able to write one complete sentence with proper conventions.  We encourage your child to remember 5 things when they write.
1. Start with a capital 2. Finger Spaces between words
3. Word Wall Words are spelled correctly 4. Monthly Job (feeling words) 5. Period at the end of your sentence.

·        We will begin talking about the different Holiday traditions in December.  If your family celebrates a special December/January holiday, we would love to invite you to come in and share it with our class.  Please talk to your teacher if you’d be willing to come in for a bit and share your family’s holiday traditions!

·        Please make sure your child is writing their name on their Homework Packets.  Many come in each week without names.

·        Upcoming Dates to remember
o      Winter break is Dec. 19th through the 2nd of January.  School resumes again on Tuesday January 3rd
o      No School January 16th for Martin Luther King Day.

Thank you again for all that you do at home to support your child’s learning.  We appreciate all that you do!  Please feel free to email with any concerns or questions!  Thank you!!
