Kindergarten Newsletter for April 4th-8th

Here’s what’s coming up for the next week…

·  Sharing – Please have your child choose an item that starts                 with the /wh/ sound and write three clues describing the item.

·  Fieldtrip Permission Slips- There are two fieldtrips coming up. On Thursday, April 21st we will be going to the Vacaville Performing Arts Center to see a play, Jack and the Beanstalk.
On Thursday, May 5th we will be visiting Loma Vista Farm in Vallejo.
Parent drivers are needed. Please complete both sides of the permission slip to indicate whether or not you will be driving a group or just your own child. Please complete and return BOTH permission slips by Friday, April 8th.

·        Monday,April 11th is Spring Picture day!  You do NOT have to preorder anything.  Just send your child to school ready to take a picture, and when the photos come back, you will have the opportunity to purchase what you like!

·        Safety Donations:  If you would like to donate to the Mundy Safety Committee so that they can purchase supplies in the event of a schoolwide disaster, please click on the link below. Your donations are greatly appreciated!!! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c48a5ab29ab9-disaster

·        Our theme for next week is Butterflies!!!  Our new word wall word is “were.”  We now know the following words:  I, like, see, a, is, the, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, am, look, are, saw, went, with, up, they, do, but, said, was, come, & will.

·        WEEKLY HOMEWORK—Packets always come home on Mondays unless we tell you otherwise.   Please have your child neatly complete 1-2 pages each night, and complete the writing assignment.

·        Writing—For the month of April, we will be writing about how things feel when you touch them.  Please have your child write at least two sentences about how something feels when they touch it.  Our goal now is to have the kids choose one topic and elaborate on it, and really describe the experience.  “I love to pet my dog.  He is warm and soft.  His fur is silky and smooth.  When I touch his whiskers they feel stiff.  He doesn’t like it when I touch his whiskers.”  (in Kindergarten writing of course)  We are encouraging LOTS of writing that all goes together!

·        Reading Eggs!!!  Please continue to log onto Reading Eggs and use this program to help reinforce our standards from home.  We are not requiring it as homework, but we would still like to encourage you to use it.  It’s a great program!

·        REMINDER Please be sure that your child returns their plastic ziplock book bag in their folder everyday.  Thank you!!

·        Typing FUN!  Dance Mat Typing is a very child friendly, FREE, colorful, FUN typing tutor program available online that we have used. Here is the link to cut & paste…  http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/levels/level1.shtml

Thank you again for all that you do at home to support your child’s learning.  We appreciate all that you do!  Please feel free to email with any concerns or questions!  Thank you!!
