5th - 9thHope
to see you ALL at STEAM night TONIGHT from 5-7PM!
We plan
to have a fabulous and sciency time...and remember, there is NO
SCHOOL for students tomorrow!
Fieldtrip-
We
will be walking to the Cordelia
Library
on
Thursday,
March 8th
to
celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We will listen to a story, complete
a craft, and have a snack. If you are able to volunteer to supervise
that day, please join us. Please do NOT bring any siblings to tag
along when chaperoning a field trip (this is a school district
policy). The AM
Kinder classes will attend at 10 a.m. and two PM Kinder classes (Mrs. Macway and Mrs. Pravin) will attend at 12 p.m.
Mrs.
Barron’s class will attend at 1pm.
DR.
SEUSS LIBRARY DAY--
Let's wear
RED, black & white again on Thursday, March 8th
as
we celebrate Dr. Seuss at the Cordelia Library.
Room
401 is in need of Pride Card Prizes for our prize box, if you would
like to donate! THANK YOU!
It
is a school wide policy that we don’t allow toys at school. Please
help us keep all toys at home (unless it’s for the sharing can)!
Not only do they get lost, but they are a huge distraction.
THANK YOU!
Leprechaun
Trap homework!!— It’s that time of year again!! Please help
your children design and create some sort of leprechaun trap to bring
to school ON St. Patrick’s Day, Friday, March 17th.
We
will be setting up their traps ON
St.
Patrick’s Day (March 17th) to see if we can catch a leprechaun!!!
Please DO NOT bring your traps before the 17th, as we have no room to
store 50+ leprechaun traps. Please feel free to be as creative
as you’d like OR as simple as you’d like! There are lots of ideas
if you Google it or look on Pinterest.
IMAGINE
THAT field trip-
We
will be taking a field trip to Imagine That in Vacaville on
Wednesday, March 21st. The AM classes will be leaving school at
9am and the PM classes will leave here at 11:30AM. This trip is
centered around hands-on STEAM activities and is super fun!. Please
be sure to fill out BOTH sides of your permission slip and turn it in
NOW,
if you haven’t done so already. We will need all available approved
drivers to help us get the kids to Vacaville. Please let your teacher
know if you are available to drive! If you are able, we are asking
for a $5 donation to help pay for our admission fees. THANK
YOU!!!
Minimum
Days- There
will be minimum days for the entire school to accommodate Parent
Conferences on March
14, 15, & 16th.
On
these days, the whole school will ALL
attend school from 8:15 – 11:35am.
Please
plan accordingly.
Speaking
of parent conferences…
for
this trimester, all students who are working ON grade level or above
will NOT be required to have a parent conference. If your child does
need
a parent conference, your child’s teacher will inform you and
schedule it during this time.
Report
Cards will come home next Monday, March 12th.
Our
theme for next week is Frogs,
and
our new word wall word is “do”. We know the following High
Frequency Words:
I,
a, like, the, see, is, can, my, and, am, have, go, to, has, you, she,
he, said, saw, no, this, up, feel, we, look, are, want, went, play,
up, they, and do.
Please
encourage
your child to use these words in their writing every
day!!!!
This
is the greatest, most impactful practice you can do at home.
At
this time, every
kindergartener should be able to independently write two sentences
with capitals, periods, finger spacing, high frequency words and
stretching out sounds phonetically of unknown words by February 28th
in order to meet grade level expectations in writing for second
trimester report cards. Practicing writing at school and at
home daily will have a powerful impact on your child’s writing
ability.
Writing—Our
writing job has changed! For the month of March, we will be talking
and writing about how
things taste.
Please
have your child write at
least
two
sentences about something you eat at home, school or out on the town,
and write about what it tastes like. Our goal now is to have the kids
choose one topic and elaborate on it, and really describe the
experience. “Today my mom took me out for frozen yogurt. I picked
vanilla frozen yogurt with blueberries on top. The frozen yogurt
tasted cold and soft in my mouth. The blueberries squirted juice when
I ate them.” (in Kindergarten writing of course) We are encouraging
LOTS of writing that all goes
together!
REMINDER-
Please
be sure that your child returns their book bag in their folder,
not backpack
everyday,
and if it’s not coming home, know that it is because we are testing
or we did a fun art project that day. Thank you!!
Thank
you again for all that you do at home to support your child’s
learning. We appreciate all that you do! Please feel free to email
with any concerns or questions! Thank you!!
