Newsletter February 1-5

Happy February everyone!  We have a lot happening this month!

Here’s what’s coming up for next week…

·        PARENT HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!  We hope that you are all working diligently on your Parent Valentines!!!!  Please remember that it doesn’t need to be a BIG deal.  It can be in the form of a homemade card, a small collage, a small poster, a homemade book, anything you would like.  Our intention is for you to take some time to shower your child with love, and send it to school IN SECRET.  We will keep them a secret until Valentine’s Day when we will present them to your child, in front of the class.  Feel free to add photos, sparkle, glitter, doilies, scrapbook paper, stickers…whatever you love, (please no food) and send it to school no later than Feb. 11th.   Thank you and have fun creating!!

·        Reminder about Valentine’s Day & our classroom parties.  We hope you have all had an opportunity to go on Sign Up Genius to bring in something for our class parties.  We could not do what we do without your help!  THANK YOU!!!  Please plan to bring in your child’s VALENTINE BOX on the day of our party, Feb. 12th.  Your child can also bring in 30 valentines for classmates on Friday.  Please have your child SIGN his/her Valentines ONLY.  They will not be delivered if they are addressed to specific friends.  It is much too difficult to manage!!

·        Our classroom themes next week are Ground Hog Day and Chinese New Year.  Our new word wall word is “are.”  We now know the following words:  I, like, see, a, is, the, can, my, and, have, go, to, has, am, look, are, saw, went, are.

·        M is the letter for next week’s sharing. Please remember to have your child write three clues. They need to be in a sentence format. Your child should practice reading them at home so it is easier for him/her to read them in front of the class. We are working on our speaking skills. Thank you.

·        Progress Reports-These went home last week. IF your child
received a progress report you were given 2 copies. Please sign one and return it to your child’s teacher. One is for you to keep.

·        WEEKLY HOMEWORK—Please have your child complete 1-2 pages per day.  Please help and encourage your child to USE THE LINES when writing words and to write 2-3 sentences on only one topic.  Have your child complete their work in their very best handwriting, USING CORRECT LETTER FORMATION, as this is a very important skill for Kindergarten.

·        Writing—Our writing job is the same all month.  We are NOW writing using SOUND words.  Please have your child write at least two sentences about the sounds you hear while taking a walk outside.  “Today I took a walk with my dad around the block.  We went to the creek and heard birds chirping in the trees.  We also heard the wind blowing the grass and the weeds.  Then we heard a fire engine siren far away.  I like listening to the sounds outside.”  (in Kindergarten writing of course)

·        REMINDER Please be sure that your child returns their book bag in their folder everyday.  We cannot send a new book home with them to practice reading if they did not bring their book bag to reading group.  Thank you!!
